"Meet the family" - Episode 1: Joan!
Joan's children have been attending the German International School The Hague for more than 10 years. From the beginning, the Danish-born mother has been involved and has volunteered in a multitude of ways supporting the DISDH school community. "THIMUN, School Library, Parents Café, Flea Market Committee, Parent Representative, Festival Committee. There are so many opportunities to get involved within the school. I just want to give something back, "says the specialist nurse for dialysis and intensive care. "At the hospital, I did not have the feeling that I was able to carry out my work the way I would have liked to. At DISDH, I really feel I can help. You get a lot of positive feedback which I find fulfilling. "
After eight years of library work and five years of involvement in the Parents' Café, Joan still appreciates the good and almost village like atmosphere at DISDH: "When I came to DISDH many years ago, I knew little about the country, about The Hague and I was grateful for the helpful information I was given by other parents which I partly received at the Parents' café. It inspired me. Today I help other parents, especially the newcomers."
Joan has been one of three organizers of the DISDH Parents Café for two years and coordinates meetings, excursions and lectures: "For me, the school is a kind of network. We are all in the same boat. We all come from abroad and know no one in the Netherlands. Within the school community, you get to know many interesting people, in particular because of the variety of nationalities at DISDH. I have found many friends from within the school community. In principle, it's a genuine give and take. "
will take place on 10 November 2017 with a lecture on Sinterklaas in the DISDH cafeteria. All interested parents are welcome.
