"Meet the family" - Episode 4: Susanne

Active, always in a good mood and with an open ear for all sorts of things – that is Susanne Schoenemann. Her four children have attended the DISDH since 2012, – the oldest two ( twins) successfully passed their Abitur this summer. From the beginning, she has played an active part in school life e.g. as a member of the parents council. Since 2016, she has been the deputy head of the DISDH school board. „Working on the board is extremely versatile and a welcome challenge. You have to consider many key aspects according to their economic consequences.. That makes work very exciting and varied“, she says with reference to her background in business administration.

Since Mrs. Schoenemann gave up her profession as a flight attendant due to her husband’s relocation to Kenya, voluntary commitment has played an important role for the only woman on the board. Having worked for one and a half years in an orphanage for homeless children in Nairobi has enriched her life. „I felt that I was really being helpful. These experiences have deeply influenced me. Now I know that many tiny steps and stamina lead to the desired result. This knowledge makes life easier and is of great use for my work on the board.“

At the German International School, she particularly appreciates that newcomers – both children and parents – are warmly welcomed from the very beginning. Kindergarten, Preschool and Secondary School are located in the same building. „The school emanates a familiar and safe atmosphere. I am particularly proud of the modernization of the school premises. The new rooms for science lessons and the enlarged, completely restructured library offer our students great and modern learning possibilities.“
