The Hague Model United Nations Youth Network (THIMUN Youth Network, TYN) is a youth - run and - organized subsidiary of THIMUN that strives to facilitate and encourage youth to become aware and active; act as responsible stakeholders; advance a spirit of collaboration, cooperation and participation among youth through our activities. The Network?s main annual event is the THMUN Youth Assembly (TYA) that is held at the end January in The Hague.
This year over 60 participants from very diverse backgrounds came together at the German School. The committees that comprised this year?s Assembly were Gender Issues; Diseases and Development; Environmental Sustainability & Human Development; and Culture Awareness, Human Rights and Globalisation.
David Williams from the THIMUN advisory Board spoke during the Opening Ceremonies on Sunday. During the first two days of the conference TYA hosted youth guest speakers that included TYA alum Sidney Efromovich and Founder of Australia?s first youth, independent non-partisan think-tank, Thom Woodroofe. For the rest of the week participants learned how to develop and sustain community specific projects oriented to youth. Participants also had the opportunity to partake in short workshops about project management, leadership, and promotions and have developed a project proposal that they may choose to implement upon return to their own communities.
We are very grateful to the DISDH for hosting us. It is always a pleasure to return to the school and we look forward to returning next year!
