THIMUN week from January 29, 2018 in The Hague

Over 3000 high school students from all over the world came together for The Hague Interntional Model United Nations (THIMUN). 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of this exceptional event in which the DISDH also participates.

DISDH students have been responsible for the Secretariat, the organ which is reponsible for printing and copying the hundreds and hundreds of resolutions which are debated each day at THIMUN. The DISDH represented Slovenia in 6 committees ranging from Human Rights to Environmental Commisssions. In addition, two of our students represented Ethiopia and had the honour of debating in the Security Council.

Thursday was the fourth day of THIMUN with two very special events on the schedule. In honour of the 50th anniversary of THIMUN, HRH Princess Mabel, patron of THIMUN attended the conference to give a talk and answer questions on the organisation "Girls not Brides". The talk was held in the large theatre in the World Forum with every seat taken by students wanting to hear her. She inspired participants at THIMUN to go out and become active getting involved to help change the world. In the evening, two young physicians who traveled to Bangladesh to make artificial limbs out of local materials for those who could otherwise not afford them. They are involved with the organisation "Naya Qadam".

The final presentations took place on Friday. The closing ceremony marked the end of the 50th THIMUN conference.
